We recently had the pleasure of dining with event manager, Janine Jones at
Américas and want to share our experience and attempt to describe the unique interior.
Having been to this eclectic, central American/Latin restaurant only for the outstanding 1492 lounge previously, we were anxious to dine downstairs in the restaurant. We weren’t disappointed. First, a little ambiance: The transition from the street level 1492 Lounge to the lower level dining room and outdoor patio reflects the plunge from the heights of Machu Picchu to the Rain Forest and mouth of the mighty Amazon River. Diners are invited to descend a magnificent, golden stairway wrapping around a rushing two-story waterfall leading to a spectacular entrance to the main dining room.
We were invited to dine during the Executive Lunch service and seated with a great view of the Woodlands Waterway. While we made our selections, we nibbled on in-house prepared plantain chips with two dipping sauces; a green chimichurri (similar to a pesto, but with green peppers) and a red chipotle sauce. To start things off, our hostess treated us to an appetizer – empañadas in four varieties, spinach, chicken, beef and bean, all beautifully presented with an assortment of colorful sauces.
The great appeal of the Executive Lunch service is that it offers a full,three course meal at lunch time pricing. We decided on Chicken Encamisado; three tender, plantain crusted chicken breast cutlets, with a spicy black bean sauce, roasted tomatoes, and seared panela cheese. Our other selection was the Swordfish Churrasco; a healthy portion of swordfish topped with a succulent sauce of sautéed shrimp, fresh tomato concassé, and chimichurri peppers. Both of these meals come with either the soup of the day or a green salad, and a slice of Américas signature dessert, Tres Leches Cake.
The Executive Lunch service is available daily until 4:00 PM. Other entrée’s on the menu include items such as the Amazon Burger, Roasted Pork Carnitas, Tilapia Exquisito and Beef Tenderloin Puntas, to name a few. Though one can easily enjoy the full three-course meal on a lunch hour, if you have more time be sure to relax and perhaps enjoy a freshly brewed cup of coffee with your Tres Leches while relaxing in their beautiful dining area or on the patio, overlooking The Waterway.
After our meal, we looked in on the banquet rooms; the smaller room just at the bottom of the stairs overlooks The Waterway and accommodates up to perhaps 20 people while the larger event room just off the main dining area easily has space for 80 – 100 guests. Both rooms are beautifully decorated in the calm, relaxing décor reminiscent of a south American rainforest and have unique “water walls.”
Between the menus, the beauty of both the interiors and the unique patio and of course, the convenience of location, Américas is the ideal place for graduation parties, rehearsal dinners and intimate celebrations. Janine, a Woodlands mother of four who arrived here by way of Argentina, knows her restaurant inside and out and will gladly help you in your plans for any special occasion you deem worthy of Américas charm.
And if you haven’t been to Américas yet, the dining options are as diverse as the America’s the restaurant is named for. Choose from Sunday brunch, the Executive lunch served Monday – Friday, dinner nightly, and of course wine and cocktails, artfully poured in the 1492 Lounge upstairs.
