There are a number of barbeque Restaurants from which to choose in The Woodlands so why should you patronize one or the other? Texas and barbeque go hand in hand around here and some of us are creatures of habit. That is to say many of us are seemingly devoted to one particular provider of smoked meats and baked potatoes. So, if you are one of those devotees to a certain barbeque establishment, consider this, there are 9 or more BBQ restaurants in The Woodlands, so why not try an alternate provider? Maybe your just scared that you might like another's better than your current favorite? Well don't be, cuz you can always go back to compare once more.
We ventured out to Spring Creek Barbeque recently to sample what many consider to be top grade barbeque and we were not disappointed. Should you not be aware, Spring Creek BBQ is a chain establishment with a majority of their stores in The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one in Tyler Texas and a few in the Houston area. The Woodlands/Shenandoah Texas location being the most recently opened (at time of this publication).
This, having been our first ever entry into their domain, we found the interior to be visually appealing and the air quite aromatic with a smoky flavor of barbeque. As it was just before dinner time, we were first in line and the employees were standing ready to serve. As we ordered our food, Turkey Sandwiches, they called out and repeated in unison but wasn't quite intelligible by either of us. In any case, it was at least entertaining and kept all of the other line employees aware of what was being ordered.
The turkey breast was sliced up before our eyes and passed along to someone with the buns; the sauce was serve yourself as were other usual condiments; pickles, onions etc. It wasn't long till we were seated along with our sign for the runner to know where to deliver the fries and we began to eat. The meat was no longer hot, assuming it was when it was first sliced but then all of the meats were just sitting on the large cutting board waiting to be sliced for some of the other patrons who had yet to appear behind us while we ordered.
The fries of course were quite hot and tasted fine yet they could have benefitted from a little seasoning. Fortunately, we didn't go to Spring Creek BBQ for the french fries - we went for the barbeque so on to the sandwiches. The meat was very tender and had good flavor, what there was of it anyway. Another slice or two would have been appreciated or maybe even a slightly thicker slice would suffice - good thing I had a baked potato which for me, is always a nice complement to a good turkey sandwich. The bbq sauce has a good flavor and just about perfect consistency; good thing you can fill as many of the 2oz cups as you want (I like adding some to my baked potato).
And should that not be enough to satisfy your hunger, you can indulge on their 'Hot Fresh Bread" which you can hear being shouted out about every 10 minutes or so. The staff will bring by a large basket filled with individual size loaves of some very tasty fresh-baked bread. Sure would be nice if they could bake their own buns - that would really make the sandwich IMO.
Corkscrew Barbeque - CorkScrew BBQ is strictly catering and delivery; minimum 24 hours advance notice required. Environmentally friendly minded service.** Country Time BBQ - Primarily a drive thru establishment - Limited on site dining available; closed Sunday & Monday. Dickey's BBQ - 2 Locations in The Woodlands, Indoor Dining Only Pappas Barbeque - Purchased "Luther's Barbeque" restaurants in the greater Houston area (2006) Even though the menu hadn't changed in some time, the food was better than what Pappas' offers in the same building(s).
