Woodson's Local Tap and Kitchen is a recent addition to the Marcel Crossing on FM 1488. You may recognize the name, "Marcel" Commons Shopping Center as the Marcel Group has built multiple retail centers with (initially) similar names all around Houston. What you won't (currently) find replicated is Woodson's Local Tap + Kitchen. The shorter name and website for this new venture, "Woodson's Local Tap and Kitchen" is Woodson's Bar. This being the first week after having opened, Woodson's Local Tap was bustling with patrons eager to try out the new bar and eatery at the entrance to Carriage Hills.
The Southwest Chicken Fried Steak is different than what you will find at other area restaurants.
Carb Hounds Rejoice - Served with white queso, this is easily the largest Pretzel we've seen in some time, it's an appetizer easily mistaken for a meal.
Chicken Wings are offered with the usual sauces, Buffalo, Hot, Spicy, Honey BBQ, etc. Shown are a combination of Buffalo and Spicy Garlic wings.
With a focus on being a local neighborhood bar and working with community businesses, Woodson's Local Bar & Kitchen features locally sourced products; the beer, the food, as well as the furniture is all crafted by local businesses. Center stage is the bar, serving up a variety of 24 beers on draft, craft beer by the bottle, and a wine and cocktail list. Local brews feature area favorites like B-52 Brewing Company, Copperhead Brewery, Lone Pint Brewery, No Label Brewery, and Southern Star Brewery.
When it comes to food, Woodson's Local has a plan to be a "game changer." Offering specialty items like Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, Reuben Style Egg Rolls, and Feedlot Brisket Egg Rolls. Then there is the Artisan French Fries options including "Magnolia Fries" - topped with brisket from Feedlot BBQ, tobacco fried onions, fried pickles and white queso. Mac and Cheese fans might be tempted with Woodson's Mac+Cheese, BBQ Mac+Cheese, or Buffalo Mac+Cheese, all with a unique twist, options include bacon, grape tomatos, brisket, or Buffalo style chicken.
The Bottom Line
Woodson's Local Tap has a nicely decorated interior with brick and metal accents, the large bar has ample seating and the patio has room for tables as well as an open area for beer pong and a bean bag toss. We look forward to a repeat visit once they have some time to work out the kinks like many new restaurants incurr. There are plenty of Television screens so you likely won't have to twist yourself to watch the game while you eat and or drink at Woodson's Local Tap+Kitchen.
