We recently stopped in at PURE Healthy Eatery, a new concept in healthy alternatives for eating, on Research Forest Drive. The restaurant is located between Shanghai Bistro and La Trattoria in the Technology Forest Plaza shopping center. We spent quite a bit of time speaking with owner Patrick Asuncion, who also owns the Cold Stone Creamery in Market Street. The eatery is currently in the "soft opening" stage, and is gearing up for the Grand Opening, which will come in the next couple of weeks. This soft opening is affording opportunities all around; from allowing those final details to be worked out, including finalization of the menu and allowing members of the community to come in and sample dishes. Pure Foods has a temporary menu posted at the store but it is subject to change. PURE offers a wide range of options, perfect for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and everything in between. The menu focuses on nutrition, sustainability and organic food choices, not to cater to a fad, but to support a healthy lifestyle. The entirety of the menu is hydrogenated oil free, trans-fat free and contains no high-fructose corn syrup.
Additionally, those seeking a wider range of options for a gluten-free, diabetic-friendly and low-cholesterol diets or adhere to vegetarian or vegan eating choices will have no difficulty finding many delicious dishes from which to choose. Breakfast items will only be available as take out items for the short term as PURE doesn't open until 11:00am for the present time. A large amount of credit for this menu diversity can be given to executive chef, Mateus Lamar. Chef Lamar possesses a wealth of experience and knowledge, beginning with his French culinary training and encompassing more than 15 years experience, much of which has included vegetarian and vegan cooking. Complimenting this delightful menu are organic iced and hot teas, in-house made juices and quite possibly the best coffee in the neighborhood. Options for healthful eating on the menu range from a fully customizable salad to wraps and grilled Panini's. Gourmet entrée selections such as a grass-fed beef tenderloin, free-range bone-in pork chop or veggie lasagna are just some of the many appetizing selections. Kids will want to return again and again for the oil-free air-fried, free range chicken nuggets that put the local fast-food chains to shame both in flavor and in quality. Looking for a healthy alternative to everyday fast food? Try an all-natural fruit and veggie smoothie in varieties such as the Nutty Professor or the Skinny Minnie. Even the condiments are healthy options; hand-crafted and freshly made spreads, dressings and vinaigrettes compliment sandwiches, salads and sides. Whenever possible, organic food products are used at PURE Foods. In addition to dining in, PURE offers most all of their menu as a pre-packaged meals, tailor made for the on-the-go lifestyle of so many people today. Owner Patrick Asuncion has teamed up with renowned Houston nutritionist Marian Bell to develop his own line of the portable meals that offer on the go consumers a ready-to-eat, yet nutritionally sound, option.
